20190726 The Obstinacy of Custer State Park!

A group of bison is called a herd, a gang or an obstinacy. An Obstinacy!

Today we must leave for home. It’s a long drive and our pups are waiting. But our route home takes us down the last 2 miles of the wildlife loop before leaving Custer State Park for good. I realize it’s a long shot, but I’m still desperately hoping to catch a glimpse of the Obstinacy on the way out…

And just like that, there they were! On both sides of the road, stretched out seemingly for miles, bulls and cows and calves, strutting and bellowing and just being generally awesome!

After a frenzy of snapping shutters, eventually we just put the cameras down and stared in awe. What a thrilling coda to a fabulous vacation!

…and then the long trudge home.
